Avital Oehler tells stories, often employing filmmaking, photography, and/or bookmaking to tell these stories.

Avital’s bookmaking work includes beautifully designed and produced handmade photobooks, zines, and artbooks.

Avital is a story-sculpting powerhouse whose razor-sharp edits and narrative instincts have fueled projects for Trailer Park, The Daily Dot, This Is Just a Test, History Channel, Discovery Channel, Lexus Shorts, and Relativity Media.

With more than a decade of story producing and editing under her belt, she brings her keen eye and sharp intellect to documentaries, narrative films, chart-topping podcasts, viral social media campaigns, commercials, and pitch-perfect promo spots.

Avital earned a Masters of Science degree in Forensic Psychology and worked in academia on research projects involving sexual assualts in prison populations and backlogged rape kits for the LAPD.  After growing disillusioned with academia, she decided to take her forensic and analytic skills into the field of film and art making, concluding that this is a more productive way to work through and share ideas.

Avital’s photography and award winning films have exhibited and screened worldwide, including at the Anthology Film Archives in New York, NY, the Meraki Film Festival in Madrid, Spain, the Los Angeles Municipal Gallery, in Los Angeles, CA, the American Documentary Film Festival in Palm Springs, CA, the Bonita Museum in San Diego, CA, CENTER in Santa Fe, NM, and the Autry Southwest Museum, in Los Angeles, CA.
