In this video, I used google images and news audio to conflate the brutalization of black bodies by police with media reactions to the 2020 protests against police brutality.
Besides the overwhelming sadness and anger I felt at the time (the privilege of only having to feel these things, rather than live them speaks volumes), I was struck and appalled by the media’s reportage on property damage caused by protestors, as opposed to speaking about the central issue - the murder of black bodies at the hands of cops. It also took me back when I realized that the words used by the reporters to describe damage to windows, trashcans, cars, etc... could be used to describe the way the police treat people of color.
