In 2016, I stopped driving and started walking, spending hours wandering Los Angeles’ varied neighborhoods, camera in tow. I engaged with my city as a safari of sorts, and discovered a place that is filled with strange and wonderful things that are often missed from the window of a car. Like a Forensic Scientist, I found myself digging for clues in a search of meaning amidst the manicured lawns and the cookie-cutter homes of suburbia, becoming increasingly fascinated with the minutiae of it all.  Months in, I decided to take a more formal approach to these walks, deliberately going out with the intention to learn, observe, and document what I saw.

At the end of the year, after sifting through my images, a theme emerged -  In suburbia, we trade nature and wildness for comfort and ease. At its core, this is a coping mechanism executed through strict control of our environment in order to avoid any feelings of fear and discomfort.

I continue to wander LA streets with my camera in tow...
